mediact first aid trainers
Mediact UK is run by Nigel Smee. First aid courses up to advanced level are delivered by Nigel or by other registered REC trainers. Some trainers have special areas of expertise such as expedition doctors, and are brought in for specialised courses or to input to a course.
Trained as a teacher of Biology, specialising in human biology. Cert. Ed. Biology (Merit) 1977.
Re-trained as teacher of Outdoor Ed. 1981.
Summer MLC, SPLA, BCU SI kayak inland and sea.
MSc in Training 1994.
Worked for 2 years in inner London as teacher of science and watersports.
Worked for 20 years as outdoor instructor with youth groups and adults in England, Scotland, Wales and France.
Other jobs as a manager in warehousing and light industry, and as an ambulance attendant with Derbyshire Ambulance service.
Qualified emergency medical technician 2001. WEMSI EMT wilderness specialist 2005. 2009.
Since 1986 worked self employed as management development tutor and outdoor instructor. Working with children, youths and adults. Occasional summer school tutor on OU and Staffs Uni. MBA courses.
Has led expeditions walking in the mountains and kayaking off the coast around England, Wales and Scotland and France. Also providing first aid and safety cover for exploration companies in Asia, Europe and America. Field trip medic for geologists in Europe and America. Volunteer first responder and trainer for local ambulance service.
Interests include walking and kayaking, computers, renovating old houses, shooting.
Favourite pastime dog mushing.
Qualified as advanced first aid instructor through Rescue Emergency Care, and as AED/O2 trainer through REC and NUCO.
Associate member BASICS and ERC.
